Westerplatte is a peninsula in Gdańsk, Poland, located on the Baltic Sea.
It is famous for the Battle of Westerplatte, which was the first clash between Polish and German forces during the Invasion of Poland and thus the first battle of the World War II.

Artus Court in Gdańsk
It is a building which used to be a meeting place of merchants and a centre of socail life. Today it is a branch of Gdansk Museum.
 
 
The memorial board from 1965 which commemorates the 20th anniversary of placing the Polish flag on the Artus Court by "soldiers of the Polish 1st Armoured Brigade of the defenders of Westerplatte fighting next to the troops of the Red Army's 2nd Belorussian Front under the command of Konstantin Rokossovsky as a symbol of liberation from Nazi occupation and reincorporation into the motherland of the ancient Polish city of Gdańsk".
 
 
 
 
 
Jerzy Popiełuszko
Jerzy Popiełuszko (September 14, 1947– October 19, 1984) was a Roman Catholic priest from Poland, associated with the Solidarity union.
He was murdered by three agents of the Polish communist internal intelligence agency.
He was a staunch anti-communist, and in his sermons, interwove spiritual exhortations with political messages, criticizing the Communist system and motivating people to protest.
