Luxurious Peles Castle, Sinaia in Romania

Near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania. It it on the medieval
route between Transylvania and Wallachia. It was built between
1873 and 1914.
It was the final resting place for several Romanian monarchs
including King Carol I. It was transformed into a museum in 1952.
Many parts of the castle are accessible to the public.
Peles Castle is as luxurious inside as it is outside. Visitors to
Peles Castle can view 35 of its over 150 rooms, which include an
armory, the imperial suite, and other rooms sumptuously decorated
and appointed with furnishings from various parts of the world.
An additional fee is required for guests who wish to take photos,
but bringing a camera is recommended. Its architectural style is
a romantically inspired blend Neo-Renaissance and Gothic Revival
similar to Schloss Neuschwanstein in Bavaria.
The castle was built in wood, stone, bricks and marble.
The representative style used is German Renaissance, but one can
easily discover elements belonging to the Italian Renaissance,
Gothic, German Baroque and French Rococo style
Peles is surrounded by seven terraces decorated with statues,
stone-made-wells, ornamental vases and Carara marble.

I used to wonder how the world championship of soccer ended up
with such a major following worldwide. Soccer never really
appealed to me so I did not fully understand the massive number
of fans the sport had. My curiosity made me Google for other
sports and events that had world championships; I was baffled by
what I found.

You will be as surprised as I was to know the events that have
world championships. Some of them are not even sports ���⒠��
they are just���⒠� weird events. Read about 10 of such weird
world championships below.
10. Toe Wrestling

Toe Wrestling was founded in Wetton at the Royal Oak Inn in the
mid ���⒠��70���⒠��s. Walkers invented the game over a few
pints and held Championships every year until a visiting Canadian
took a title. The sport was shelved for twenty years because of
it. Now enter Nash ���⒠�� 1994: a new type of toe warrior with
the courage to reclaim English pride! At 49 when discussing his
earlier wins, Nash stated ���⒠��I sat down and let my toes do
the work,���⒠�� and in 1997 Nash was even featured on the Jay
Leno show after he took the Championship title after breaking
four toes and returning to finish. Stiff competition is around
but Nash believes strongly that the age of maturity at
thirty-five is the ideal toe wrestling peak.

9. Pea Shooting

The Pea Shooting championship is held to determine whose lungs,
concentration and aim will clinch the title of World���⒠��s
best. A town called Witcham in Cambridgeshire hosts international
peashooters in an attempt to hit a calibrated target which is
made of putty at a distance of no less than twelve yards. Recent
additions to old peashooter tubes include gyroscopic stabilizers
and laser sights. Though it���⒠��s been a debate on whether new
tech should be allowed in the old world sport, compromises have
been made and shooters can now include a great deal of tech on
their peashooter but the basic foundations of concentration,
attitude and pea selection are what make it in this sport
according to peashooter ���⒠��George���⒠��, resident of
Witcham. This sport would highly be recommended to anyone who
used to love shooting spitballs in class.

8. Worm Charming

In South Cheshire, England, there is an event known as the
Willaston Worm Charming competition where seasonal rain patterns
make for the perfect environment to test the mettle of folks that
have a real knack at ���⒠��communing and communicating with
nature���⒠��: participants are each granted a nine foot by nine
foot square of wet, sloshy field and through whatever channels
they can devise minus digging worms up, they must bring the most
total worms out of the earth to the top of the soil bed. This
entire fiasco lasts only thirty minutes but in the meantime there
are folks running around doing dances, banging on drums, tapping
the ground to stimulate the earthen friends and there���⒠��s
always plenty of pitchforking into the soil ���⒠�� turning up
the soil results in disqualification. Since this event has become
quite enjoyed by participants it���⒠��s catching major headwind
media wise: this past year there were four BBC camera teams
covering the event! Harry Potts and his mother Annette managed to
charm 167 worms this year and last year there had been a tie at
167 requiring a charm-off. More often than not stories are
recounted about meager bounties of only three to seven lousy
worms coming up to say hi to contestants.

7. Mobile Phone Throwing

Apparently in Finland this unique international event began to
raise awareness of cellular phone recycling. Well, in 2000 a
bunch of Finnish folks got together and thought it���⒠��d be a
great idea to bring in countries around the world to compete in
who can throw their cell phones the furthest. The event became so
exacerbated that there are four categories: original, freestyle,
team original and junior ���⒠�� folks under 12 are encouraged
to throw phones, too. The UK, Finland, Spain, and the US are all
countries that have started holding these cell phone throwing
events on the national level. Why not an event involving throwing
phones from moving vehicles remains to be explained ���⒠��
that���⒠��s where this backwards trend could be most useful,
after all.

The current World Record belongs to Chris Hughff from England,
set in 2007.

6. Egg Throwing

As though pelting eggs at houses of mean teachers and disliked
community residents is ideally about the splatter, contestants in
England for the World Egg Throwing Championship made their
attempts at preserving the yolk more than spilling it. At an
event that pulled in thousands of spectators and over
three-hundred participants, there were a few different egg tosses
to go around for the party. Target throwing was pit against a man
dressed as a German Officer and eggs were awarded the most points
for pelting his groin. There was also an egg relay, trebuchet,
and Russian Egg Roulette which is where people have to determine
if the egg in front of them is hardboiled or raw. These events
are gaining popularity.

5. Swamp Soccer

Finland hosts some interesting events but none get quite as down
and dirty as the swamp soccer. In an area outside of the town
Hyrynsalmi (about 650 kilos NE of Helsinki) there is a swampy bog
type atmosphere in a town known as P���ölh���övaara. For three
days in July, Finnish soccer enthusiasts give their run at the
mucky murk of the swamps. Fields marked by long, bright yellow
elastic bands resemble pig stys moreso than fields. The terrain
is so arduous it���⒠��s amazing that players go a full fifty
minutes trudging through the swamp and doing all they can to get
the ball in the goal. These participants originally all from
Finland are now two-hundred sixty strong and they come from all
around the world. At the end of the nights of hard play, Finnish
saunas heat shivering bodies up and help to cleanse away the
filth of the day.

4. Anvil Shooting

In Laurel, Mississippi there is a national contest for shooting
anvils; don���⒠��t expect any ricocheting here though. Anvil
shooting is as far from the first thing that comes to your mind
as possible: rather than firing projectiles at anvils, a core
group of enthusiasts instead use the anvil as the projectile.

dumps of black powder are inserted into carefully crafted
recesses in the base of one anvil ���⒠�� this loaded, 120 pound
bullet is then mounted atop another anvil and a long fuse is lit
attached to the powder. Literally skyrocketing to one-hundred and
fifty feet (50m) or more once the charge goes off, the anvils
that are ���⒠��shot���⒠�� into the air are judged by vertical
max height and penalized for every foot away from the launch
anvil that it lands. While this sport is refined to about twelve
or so die-hard anvil shooters there are two divisions:
traditional and super modified.

3. Kudu Dung Spitting

Hawaiian getaways, washing and drying machines and all kinds of
household wares and goods were given out for top prizes and
condolence prizes.

In Samnaun, Switzerland there is an annual event to test the
mettle of Santa���⒠��s little helpers and impersonators: the
ClauWau Championship features twenty-three die hard teams of four
in frigid weather ranging anywhere from zero Celsius and below.
Seasonal cheer is abundant at this event where activities range
from shimmying up Chimneys to performing song and dance numbers
and hustling along on wooden rocking horses around a race track.
This event is an international favorite with skills such as snow
sculpting and gingerbread house decoration can be every bit as
competitive as they are good-hearted fun. In keeping with
Santa���⒠��s need to circumnavigate the planet and deliver
gifts to all boys and girls, contestants must have a keen mind
for geography: this championship isn���⒠��t all milk and
cookies, it���⒠��s a pure blend of mental and physical
challenge!
