Devotees offer different food items to Goddess Durga during
9-days Navratri Durga Puja

This may differ from place to place in North India and South
India. All the offerings made to the Goddess should be
distributed among devotees and to the poor. Though, there is many
differences in North and South Indian Naivedyam list, here is a
list of Naivedya for all the nine-day of Navratri Puja. It can be
followed by all regions without any hesitance.
28 September 2011, First day of Navratri, Pratipada: Ghee or
products made of ghee. It makes the devotee free from all
diseases and makes him healthy.
29 September 2011, Second day of Navratri, Dwitiya: Sugar or the
food made with Sugar products. For this Goddess Durga blesses the
devotee with fullest happiness and good health.
30 September 2011, Third day of Navratri, Tritiya: Milk or the
products prepared with milk. Durga Ma blesses the devotees for
this with peace and mental happiness in the life.
30 September 2011, Fourth day of Navratri, Chaturthi: Offer the
Goddess the products made with Maida and sugar. It blesses the
devotee to get rid of all his sins.
1 October 2011, Fifth day of Navratri, Panchami: Bananas or any
other fruits but offering bananas gives psychological maturity
for the devotee.
2 October 2011, Sixth day of Navratri, Sashti: Honey or the
products made of honey. It makes devotee free from any mental
illness and provides them fullest confidence to face any
challenge in life with ease.
3 October 2011, Seventh day of Navratri, Saptami: Offer items
made of jaggery. It makes the devotee wealthy for all the coming
generations.
4 October 2011, Eighth day of Navratri, Ashtami: Offer Coconut or
any other product made of coconut water. It makes the devotee
happy and prosperous in his life.
5 October 2011, Ninth day of Navratri, Navami: Grains such as
wheat, maze, etc on this day makes the devotee free from all his
bonds and provides him salvation after his death.
There are different Naivedyam items for Navratri puja in South
India, especially in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

What is Navratri?
Navaratri or Navaratra is a Hindu festival of worship and dance.
The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit
Nav = nine and Ratri = nights. It is celebrated during the period
of Sarad Masi Aswin by Hindu lunar calendar, all eight days and
nine nights have its importance and is divided into sets of three
days to adore three different aspects of the supreme goddess or
goddesses.

peace and prosperity. During the next three days, the Mother is
adored as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is considered

aspects of the divine femininity, hence, the worship for nine
nights.

of Ink land. Matthew Wheeler, 31, has spent almost 300 hours in

Portugal�����s Traditional Santana Houses
Santana is famous for its traditional homes with bungalow
rooftops that are made out of straw that extend down to the
ground, making them triangular in shape.
Santana is a municipality along the northern coast of the
archipelago of Madeira, and is one of this Portuguese
island�����s most important tourist destinations, mainly because
of the traditional palheiros.
Most of these houses are tourist attractions. The straw roofs are
renovated every four to five years. They are mainly rural houses,
used by farmers in the past. These houses have white walls with
red doors and windows and blue trim.
They were built using the resources at hand: stone or wood for
the walls and straw from the once-abundant wheat fields for the
roof. The palheiros served the locals for centuries as stables
and dwellings.
The most well-known type of house is the triangular one with the
thatched roof coming all the way down to the ground. Inside there
is an attic for storing agricultural products and a ground floor
divided into two rooms, one of which was the bedroom. Cooking was
done outdoors.
At the beginning of the colonization, the land was allotted
amongst noblemen and some bourgeois, with the ownership of plots
of uncultivated land. They were bound to clear the land and build
houses for people and shelter for livestock.
