Om
is one of the most chanted sound symbols in India. It has a profound
effect on the body and mind of the one who chants and also on the
surroundings. Most mantras and vedic prayers start with Om.
All auspicious actions begin with Om. It is even used as a greeting
Om, Hari Om etc. It is repeated as a mantra or meditated upon. Its form
is worshipped, contemplated upon or used as an auspicious sign. Om is the universal name of the Lord. It is made up of the letters A
(phonetically as in around), U (phonetically as in put) and M
(phonetically as in mum). The sound emerging from the vocal chords
starts from the base of the throat as A. With the coming together of
the lips, U is formed and when the lips are closed, all sounds end in
M.
The three letters symbolize the three states (waking, dream and deep
sleep), the three deities (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva), the three Vedas
(Rig, Yajur and Sama) the three worlds (Bhuh, Bhuvah, Suvah) etc. The
Lord is all these and beyond. The formless, attributeless Lord (Brahman) is represented by the
silence between two Om Chants. Om is also called pranava that means,
that (symbol or sound) by which the Lord is praised. The entire
essence of the Vedas is enshrined in the word Om. It is said that the
Lord started creating the world after chanting Om and atha. Hence its
sound is considered to create an auspicious beginning for any task that
we undertake. The Om chant should have the resounding sound of a bell
(aaooommm). Om is written in different ways in different places. The most common
form symbolizes Lord Ganesha? The upper curve is the head; the lower
large one, the stomach; the side one, the trunk; and the semi-circular
mark with the dot, the sweetmeat ball (modaka) in Lord Ganeshas hand.
Thus Om symbolizes everything the means and the goal of life, the
world and the Truth behind it, the material and the Sacred, all form
and the Formless.

Bhai
Phota is a prominent Hindu festival celebrated in the state of West
Bengal on the Dvitya or the second day after the Kali Puja. Bhai Phota
is a festival that strengthens the beautiful bond of love and affection
between a brother and his sister. It is celebrated with lot of gusto
and euphoria all over West Bengal and sisters and brothers eagerly
await the arrival of the joyful Bhai Fota.
Bhai Phota Ceremonies
At
10 in the morning Bengali houses reverberate with the sound of conch
shells marking the beginning of the festivities. Traditionally the
ceremonies take place in the house of the sister who invites her
brother and his family on the occasion of Bhai Phota. When the entire
family has gathered in the central place of the house, sisters, dressed
in their fine clothes, make their brothers sit on a traditional
Asana, a small cotton mattress. With full sincerity and humility she
applies Phota or tilak on her brothers forehead amidst the
chanting of mantras. This Tilak is a paste of chandan (sandalwood),
'kaajol' and 'doi' (yogurt). There is also a prescribed method of
applying Fota. If the sister is elder to the brother, she applies
Phota with the little finger of her left hand while the kid sister
apply phota using their right hand.
After
the Fota ceremony, brother is showered with sweets and gifts from the
sisters. Following the tradition, brother touches the feet of his elder
sister who gives him rice grains and 'Durba' (blades of grass) as her
blessing. Then comes the turn of the brother to pamper his sisters with
gifts or cash.
Though
the entire ceremony is simple in nature, it has a deep underlying
meaning attached to it. The Bhai Phota ceremony is symbolic of sisters
prayers to the divine to provide long and a prosperous life to her
brother. Such is the love of the sister that she does not consume even
a morsel of food or a take a sip of the customary morning tea before
she applies phota on her dear brother.
Bhai Phota Celebrations
After
the Bhai Phota ceremonies are over it is time to have some fun. The
whole family indulges in songs, games and merriment. Relatives are
invited for big family get togethers over lunch or dinner. Their
presence doubles the excitement and people have a good time relishing
the best of festive food with near and dear ones.
Here are the various versions of mantras which are chanted during the Bhai Phota ceremonies:
Bengali Version:
Bhaier kapale dilam phonta,
Jamer Duare porlo kanta,
Jamuna Dae Jomke phonta,
Ami di amar bhaike phonta,
Bhai jeno hoy lohar vata.
English Translation:
I put a "phota" on my brothers fore-head
To make my brother immortal
"Yamuna" gives a "phota" to "Yam"
I give a "phota" to my brother
Brother may becomes tough as iron.

Most plants contain some level of toxins (like alkaloids) for
defense. After all, theyre plants. They cant go
anywhere. Through millennia of trial and error, both animals and
human beings have figured out which plants are safe, which are
lethal, and which are somewhere in between. For example, did you
know that many grain-bearing plants contain a toxin known as
lectins? And that the African staple, cassava, must be
thoroughly boiled and soaked to separate it from its poisonous
compound, cyanide? Even the humble lima bean has been bred to
contain less cyanide. Cherries, potatoes, peaches and apple
seeds are all toxic eat enough of the latter, in fact,
and it will prove fatal. Fortunately, artificial selection and
cooking methods have all but eliminated the threat of toxins in
everyday foods. But you may be surprised to find out the
incredibly lethal plants often hanging around the neighborhood
park or gracing your tabletop in the form of a
centerpiece.
1. Castor Bean
Castor oil for anyone unlucky enough to have been force
spoon-fed this healthy yet disgusting fluid as a child, you may
be surprised to learn that an ingredient in the castor bean just
happens to be the deadliest plant poison on earth. Literally.
Just one tiny castor bean is enough to kill an adult within a
few minutes. Castor oil is made safe (but not palatable) with
the removable of the lethal compound known as ricin. Amazingly,
castor bean plants are grown for decorative purpose all over the
place, particularly in California.
2. Rosary Pea
As if a deadly legume werent bad enough, the pulses
arent so benign, either. The rosary pea may sound sweet
and downright pious, but its actually one of the most
dangerous plants on earth. Its seeds contain a particular lectin
known as abrin; if chewed and swallowed, death will follow
shortly. The seeds are easily identified with their distinctive
bright red jacket and single black dot (almost like a reverse
Black Widow spider). Abrin, which does its damage by
inactivating ribosomes, is one of the most fatal toxins on
earth. After the vomiting, fever, nausea, drooling and G.I.
dysfunction but before the bizarre hyperexcitability, edema and
fatally convulsive seizures, renal tubular degeneration, bladder
and retinal hemorrhage and widespread internal lesions typically
develop.
3. Monkshood
Another unassuming plant until you learn that the nickname
for monkshood is actually wolfsbane. Thats
owing to its once common use by farmers as a very effective wolf
extermination tool. (Not to be left out, fowl are also fatally
affected by the related hensbane.) The monkshood has the
distinction of evidently being the bane of many creatures: its
nicknames include womensbane and leopards bane, though it
is also known as blue rocket and devils helmet. It is
technically part of the aconitum genus, of which there are more
than 250 species. The wolfsbane used to be a popular werewolf
detection tool, by the way. (Status was determined by holding
the flower near the allegeds chin; a yellow-tinged shadow
on the skin was thought to be confirmation.)
4. Bushmans poison
The aptly-named Bushmans poison has famously been used by
the Khoisan of South Africa to poison the tips of their arrows.
Though the plant produces pleasantly scented flowers and a tasty
plum-like berry, the milky sap can be fatal. The leaves, however,
have medicinal properties. Bushmans poison is also known as
the wintersweet.
5. Angels trumpet
What could be sweeter than the sound of an angels trumpet?
Perhaps the moaning agony of a trip that wont end. Related
to petunias, tomatoes and potatoes, the angels trumpet
(datura stramonium) is a highly effective hallucinogen, but
should not be consumed for recreational purposes as it can also
be lethal. According to wikipedia: The active ingredients
are atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine which are classified
as deliriants, or anticholinergics. Due to the elevated risk of
overdose in uninformed users, many hospitalizations, and some
deaths, are reported from recreational use. This common
plant also goes by many other names, including jimson weed,
stink weed, loco weed, and devils snare. One 18-year-old
who was house-sitting alone for his uncle recounts how he
decided to prepare some angels trumpet tea in curiosity
and almost died (a friend burst in on him convulsing on the
bathroom floor and the authorities assumed he was on an acid
trip).
6. Water hemlock
The poison hemlock famously drunk by Socrates is deadly, but the
water hemlock is just as fatal. According to the USDA, water
hemlock or poison parsnip is the most violently toxic
plant in North America. The flowers and stems are safe,
but the stalky roots contain chambers that are full of a deadly
sap containing the convulsant cicutoxin. Grand mal seizures are
followed by a quick death if even a tiny amount is consumed.
7. English Yew
The English Yew, or taxus baccata (taxus meaning
toxin), is one of the deadliest trees on the planet. The
evergreen has a majestic and lush appearance and is fairly
common in forests of Europe. The yew is considered by scientists
to be an odd and primitive conifer along with the monkey puzzle
tree of Chile and Gingko biloba tree of Asia. The yew has a
rather sad history. All parts save for the flesh of the
berries are extremely poisonous. Because the toxin causes
convulsions and paralysis, it was once used as an abortifacient.
Apothecaries would dry and powder the leaves and stems and give
desperate women minute amounts in the days before birth control
was available. Unfortunately, death would often result. The yew
has been quite popular throughout history for a number of
medicinal purposes at extremely dilute levels, but it is deemed
too dangerous in modern medical practice to be of use. The
yews primary toxin is taxine, a cardiac depressant. The
yew acts rapidly and there is no antidote.
8. Snakeroot
Snakeroot is most dangerous for livestock such as cattle and
sheep. When cows consume the attractive fluffy white blooms and
stems of the snakeroot, their milk and bones become saturated
with the toxin tremetol and humans who consume these
contaminated animal products will develop milk sickness (tremetol
poisoning). In fact, milk sickness is what killed Abraham
Lincolns mother, Nancy Hanks.
9. Strychnine tree
Queen Cleopatra famously forced servants to commit suicide by
means of a strychnine trees fruit seeds, which contain
lethal levels of strychnine and brucine, in order to determine
if it would be the best means for her own suicide. Upon seeing
their agony (which included painful vomiting, facial contortions
and convulsions) she opted for the apparently less horrific
choice of the asp. (The asp was actually an ancient term for any
number of poisonous snakes, but experts think it was probably
the cobra that Cleopatra chose to end her life.)
10. Moonseed
A otherworldly name and a plant with often fatal effects. The
seeds of this Eastern North American drupe (stone fruit) are
extremely toxic to humans, although birds can eat them.
Moonseeds first cause paralysis but are fatal in larger doses
and/or if treatment is not sought immediately.
11. Daphne
This plant, also called the spurge laurel, is a favorite
ornamental shrub in Europe. This drupe-producing evergreen with
waxy, attractive foliage and gorgeously fragrant blooms is also
highly toxic. Consumption of the leaves or red or yellow fruits
will first cause nausea and violent vomiting, followed by
internal bleeding, coma and death. The daphne plant is rich in
the toxin mezerein.
12. Narcissus
Narcissists are toxic enough when they come in human form, but
the plant for which they are named, also called the daffodil, is
highly poisonous. Poets narcissus is more toxic than
daffodil, but in both cases it is the bulbs, not the flower or
stems, that cause illness. One famous fatal case in Toulouse in
the early 1900s occurred when the bulbs were mistaken for onions
and consumed. According to Botanical.com, Socrates called
this plant the Chaplet of the infernal Gods, because
of its narcotic effects. An extract of the bulbs, when applied
to open wounds, has produced staggering, numbness of the whole
nervous system and paralysis of the heart. Yet, there are
medicinal properties, and some cultures even believe they can
cure baldness and serve as a potent aphrodisiac. (Do not try at
home.)
13. Oleander
The oleander is the most deadly plant in the world. It is also
tremendously popular as a decorative shrub. Just one leaf can
kill an adult, and fatal poisonings have resulted from minimal
exposure to the twigs, blooms and berries. The plant contains
numerous toxins, including nerioside, oleandroside, saponins,
and cardiac glycosides. Though native to parts of the
Mediterranean and Asia, it is now widely cultivated throughout
the world. Fatalities among horses and other livestock are
common. Once ingested, oleander goes to work simultaneously on
the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, and the digestive
tract.
14. Rhododendron
The toxic rhododendron, a stalky tree-like evergreen shrub with
large, brilliant blooms, is famously seen throughout much of the
Pacific Northwest and is the state flower of Washington. Its
relative, the popular garden shrub azalea, is also poisonous.
Both plants contain andromedatoxin, which can cause severe pain,
lethargy, depression, vomiting and nausea, progressive
paralysis, coma and eventual death. All parts are deadly.
15. Choke cherry
Chokecherry, or wild cherry, is a North American plant that is
known for its large sprays of tiny white flowers. The cherries
are small and not eaten. The plants woody stalks and
leaves are full of hydrocyanic acid, which is fatal if consumed.
The poison affects the respiratory system, and rapid breathing,
choking and asphyxiation result.
16. Nightshade
Also known as the devils cherry, black cherry, great morel
and belladonna, the nightshade is toxic from tip to top.
Containing atropine, a deadly alkaloid, those who ingest even a
small amount of the plant will soon notice they have lost their
voice. Respiratory trouble and convulsions follow. The plant is
problematic because its cherries are so sweet and children are
frequently attracted to the wild fruit. Strangely, horses,
birds, sheep, goats and pigs seem to be immune to the effects of
nightshade. Nightshade poisoning is treatable with an emetic if
treatment is sought swiftly. Plutarch spoke of armies being wiped
out by nightshade, and legend has it that Macbeths soldiers
poisoned the invading Danes with wine made from the sweet fruit.

Routine tests and checkups, like pap smears and
colonoscopies, are important -- but don't rely on tests alone to
protect you from cancer. It's just as important to listen to
your body and notice anything that's different, odd, or
unexplainable. Although many of these symptoms could be caused
by less serious conditions, they're worth getting checked out if
they persist. You don't want to join the ranks of cancer patients
who realize too late that symptoms they'd noticed for a long time
could have sounded the alarm earlier, when cancer was easier to
cure. Here is a list of 10 most Cancer Symptoms that You Are
Most Likely to Ignore...
1. Wheezing or Shortness of Breath
One of the first signs lung cancer patients remember noticing
when they look back is the inability to catch their breath. "I
couldn't even walk across the yard without wheezing. I thought I
had asthma, but how come I didn't have it before?" is how one
woman described it. Thyroid cancer can also cause breathing
problems if a nodule or tumor begins to press on the trachea, or
windpipe. Any breathing difficulties that persist are reason to
visit the doctor.
2. Swallowing Problems or Hoarseness
Most commonly associated with esophageal or throat cancer,
difficulty swallowing is sometimes one of the first signs of
lung cancer, too. A hoarse or low, husky voice or the feeling of
something pressing on the throat can be an early indicator of
thyroid cancer or a precancerous thyroid nodule, as can the
feeling of having something stuck in your windpipe.
3. Frequent Fevers or Infections
These can be signs of leukemia, a cancer of the blood cells that
starts in the bone marrow. Leukemia causes the marrow to produce
abnormal white blood cells, which crowd out healthy white cells,
sapping the body's infection-fighting capabilities. Often,
doctors diagnose leukemia only after the patient has been in a
number of times complaining of fever, achiness, and flu-like
symptoms over an extended period of time.
4. Upset Stomach
As simple as it sounds, a good old-fashioned bellyache is what
tipped off a number of lucky folks, whose doctors ordered
ultrasounds and discovered early that they had tumors on their
livers. Stomach cramps or frequent upset stomachs may indicate
colorectal cancer; many cancer patients say their doctors
thought they had ulcers.
5. Weakness and Fatigue
"I kept having to sit down at work, and one night I was too tired
to drive home," said one woman in describing the fatigue that
led her to discover she had leukemia. Generalized fatigue and
weakness is a symptom of so many different kinds of cancer that
you'll need to look at it in combination with other symptoms.
But any time you feel exhausted without explanation and it
doesn't respond to getting more sleep, talk to your doctor.
6. Unexplained Weight Loss
If you notice the pounds coming off and you haven't made changes
to your diet or exercise regime, you need to ask why. Weight
loss is an early sign of colon and other digestive cancers; it's
also a sign of cancer that's spread to the liver, affecting your
appetite and the ability of your body to rid itself of wastes.
7. Changes in Fingernails
Unexplained changes to the fingernails can be a sign of several
types of cancer. A brown or black streak or dot under the nail
can indicate skin cancer, while newly discovered "clubbing" --
enlargement of the ends of the fingers, with nails that curve
down over the tips -- can be a sign of lung cancer. Pale or
white nails can be an indication that your liver is not
functioning properly, sometimes a sign of liver cancer.
8. Chronic "Acid Stomach" or Feeling Full After a Small Meal
The most common early sign of stomach cancer is pain in the upper
or middle abdomen that feels like gas or heartburn. It may be
aggravated by eating, so that you feel full when you haven't
actually eaten much. What's particularly confusing is that the
pain can be relieved by antacids, falsely confirming your
conclusion that it was caused by acid in the stomach, when it's
more than that. If you have frequent bouts of acid stomach, an
unexplained abdominal ache, or a full feeling after meals even
when you're eating less than normal, call your doctor.
9. Chronic Heartburn
If you just ate half a pizza, heartburn is expected. But if you
have frequent episodes of heartburn or a constant low-level
feeling of pain in the chest after eating, call your doctor and
ask about screening for esophageal cancer. Gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD) -- a condition in which stomach acid rises
into the esophagus, causing heartburn and an acidic taste in the
throat -- can trigger a condition called Barrett's esophagus,
which can be a precursor of esophageal cancer.
10. Bowel Problems
Constipation, diarrhea, and changes in stools can all be signs of
cancer. As with many other cancer symptoms, the way to tell if
this is cause for concern is if it goes on for more than a few
days without a clear cause, such as flu or food poisoning.
People diagnosed with colon cancer say they noticed more
frequent stools, as well as a feeling that their bowels weren't
emptying completely. One of the early signs of pancreatic cancer
is fatty stools, which can be recognized as frequent, large
stools that are paler than normal and smelly. This is a sign that
your body's not absorbing your food normally, and it should be
brought to your doctor's attention.

How To Be A Good Friend
It is said that people are not calculated according to the
number of friends they have, yes, some people they are friends.
It is very difficult to have a good friend to others and a
reliable everywhere. It will be difficult to win the love,
appreciation and trust of others, unless and until you have the
basic quality and features as one of being a good friend .
Qualities Of Being A Good Friend
What You Are: --To be accepted by others around you, do not try
to be someone that you do not. Be yourself. Let yourself be
known and accepted for the performance of yourself, not for
someone that you are not.
Be respectful :--Know boundaries. Things and you should discuss
your treatment with care - your friends may not share this
information with anyone, and may not want. She shared it with
you - and only you, as you know. For example: If you do not want
your love your name, do not push yourself into it. If she named
her heart, do not tell anyone else. This is only polite to
anyone and everyone dissemination worth the expectation that you
will keep the confidence.
Be Honest: --A dishonest person can have friends around him /
her, but not the truth. If you want a good friend to others, it
is important to show loyalty to those around you. No broken
promises that you make them. Think twice before making your
response - whether you can stand up to speak for you. In case if
you have promised and could not complete it, be honest to tell
them about the whole dilemma.
Are You Dependable: --You should win the confidence of the
people you want to be a good friend. This is only if you can
show honest with them. Be loyal. If your friend shares his / her
best kept secrets with you, do not let any third person even get
suggestions about it. Blabbing secrets to others would result in
the loss of your confidence and trust in you. You'll then be
viewed as a backstabber. Remember, trust is the foundation of
good friendship. So, do not trust to leave their friends, at any
cost.
Listen : --Hear your friends. Lending an ear to the needs, their
emotions, feelings and desires. Without limiting yourself by
just listening to them. Show your reaction to anything they say,
by gestures. Showing feel will not serve the purpose. Try to
empathize their situation.
Shows the time of crisis: --May be through thick and thin of
your life. You should be the first to help you in your time of
crisis. For example, if your friend is a hospital, give his /
her immediate aid, such as packed in bags, before I do. Do not
leave your friends to enjoy himself / themselves in any illegal
activities. Special care of your friends who you think was wedged
with any type of addiction. Advise that person out of the habit.
Whether it's physical, mental or financial support, allowing the
first there, rather than as a last resort.
Leave space: --The most important aspect, the maximum that
people neglect when they want a good friend, the needs of the
space friendship. While getting personal with your friends, do
not forget to leave a space for him / her. It is very important
to maintain the personality of the friendship. Do not be clingy
or poor. Give your friend enough time to hang out with others.
Him / her space is needed. Not enjoy all the time on the job,he /
she does not want to share with you or do not want your
participation in it.
Quotes of Good Friend:-
How I wish I had a friend like you.Someone I could tell my
troubles to.Someone who wont laugh and call me fool.A good
friend like you.
Every afternoon we share a walk.Just a couple times around the
block.Youre so patient while I talk and talk.A good friend
like you.
Time is all I have to spend on you.You appreciate it when I
do.Make me feel Im extra special too.A good friend like
you.

In front of the person you love, your heart beats fasterBut in
front of the person you like , you get happy.
In front of the person you love, winter seems like springBut in
front of the person you like, winter is just a beautiful winter.
If you look into the eyes of the one you love, you blushBut if
you look into the eyes of the one you like, you smile.
In front of the person you love, you can' t say everything on
your mindBut in front of the person you like, you can.
In front of the person you love, you tend to get shyBut in front
of the person you like, you can show your ownself.
Then person you love comes into your mind every 2 minutes. You
can't look straight into the eyes of the one you loveBut you can
always smile into the eyes of the one you like.
When the one you love is crying, you cry with themBut when the
one you like is crying, you end up comforting.
The feeling of love starts from the eyeAnd the feeling of like
starts from the ear.
So if you stop liking a person you used to likeAll you need to do
is cover your ears,But if you try to close your eyesLove turns
into a drop of tear and remains in your heart forever after.

Did you know that sex can give you a bad headache? How about
that three gene variations linked to migraines have been
discovered? And that most sinus headaches are really migraines?
Research is zeroing in on a source of pain we have all felt at
one time or another, whether its a dull aching pain or a tension
headache, the throbbing of a migraine or a pounding hangover
headache after a big night out. Here is the rundown of 10 things
you may not know about headaches.
1. Sinus Headaches Are Rare:
Nasal and sinus congestion, facial pain and pressure, and a
headache usually dont add up to a sinus headache. Headache
specialists say that true sinus headaches are rare. In a study
with almost 3,000 patients who had at least six sinus headaches
in the previous six months, medical evaluations showed that 88
percent actually had migraines. In another study, 45 percent of
migraine patients had either nasal congestion or watery eyes.Tip
off: its probably migraine if in addition to sinus symptoms, you
are nauseous, sensitive to light or noise and if the headache
throbs and worsens with activity.
2. Processing 3D Images Causes Brain Strain:
A Northwestern University ophthalmology professor warns that a
large segment of the population may develop a headache and
nausea while watching 3D movies. This is due to the brain strain
involved with processing the three dimensional images - the more
an image jumps out at you, the more effort your brain must make
to fuse the pictures together, says Northwestern University's
Michael A. Rosenberg, MD.
3. Take-Off and Landing Lead to Headaches:
No, this has nothing to do with the aggravation of cancelled
flights or long delays. Instead, sudden, severe, stabbing
headaches during a planes ascent or descent are being reported.
Doctors haven't figured out yet what causes them. Luckily, the
pain lasts only about 20 minutes.
4. Bug Spray Prompts Headaches:
Its not the bugs but exposure to insecticides used to kill them
that causes these headaches (plus dizziness, trouble breathing,
nausea and vomiting). According to the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, most cases required no medical
treatment, but one death has been reported and 18 percent of
those exposed to the insecticides required medical attention.
5. High Cholesterol Causes Headaches:
You may not have to worry unless you are in your late 60s or
older and have migraines with aura(the flashing lights, tingling
and other signs of a headaches approach that about one-third of
migraine patients report). A recent study found a link between
migraine with aura and high cholesterol in seniors. Migraine
with aura has also been linked to a higher risk of heart disease
and stroke.
6. Headaches Might Be Genetic:
Researchers have pinpointed three genetic variations linked to an
increased risk of migraines. One is involved in sensing cold and
pain, another is linked to several processes including signaling
in nerve cells (neurons). The role of the third isn't yet known.
Each of the gene variations identified alters the risk for
migraines by 10 to 15 percent.
7. Alcohol, As a Trigger, Is Overstated:
Research from Italy suggests that the role of alcohol and some
foods in triggering migraines has been overstated. Instead, the
investigators found that stress, fatigue and in
women, menstruation are most often the culprits. They suggested
that migraine patients who want to drink alcohol could try small
amounts of specific types to see what they can tolerate.
8. Botox Can Treat Headaches:
Best known as a wrinkle remover, Botox also can put the brakes on
chronic migraines (those that occur 15 days per month or more).
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of
Botox form igraine prevention. Injections seem to cut down on
headaches, although studies suggest that Botox doesnt work as
well as some prescription drugs. Researchers still haven't
figured out how Botox staves off the headaches, but they do know
that effects last only about three months before patients have
to be re-injected.
9. The Battlefield Has Created a New Type of Headache:
About one third of the US soldiers returning from Iraq are
bringing with them a new type of chronic migraine caused by
nerve damage or the pressure from bomb blast waves. While these
headaches are still being studied, treatments include rest,
avoiding migraine triggers, stress management and changes of
diet.
10. Sex Causes Headaches:
Here's a surprise: men are more likely to get these types of
headaches than women. According to the American Headache
Society, two types of headaches are related to sexual activity: a
dull ache that develops as the sex act increases or a severe one
that strikes as orgasm nears. Experts say its best to check with
your doctor the first time you get one of these headaches.

Indian Cricket team is not a dream-team and comprises human
beings who can never achieve perfection.
India has gone through its fair share of heartbreaks in the
various matches that the team has played over the years. We take
a look at 5 such moments which proved to be heartbreaking for
the Indian cricket team as well as the fanatic followers of the
game.
1. Javed Miandad's six against India: Sharjah Cup 1986
Perhaps the most famous six of all time, was the one hit by Javed
Miandad off Chetan Sharma in the last ball of the final over at
the Sharjah Cup in 1986. In this India-Pakistan match, Miandad's
six led the Pakistani team to a thrilling victory. Prior to
Sharjah, Pakistan had lost six of their nine ODI matches against
India. Miandad's thundering six probably had a crushing effect
on the Indian bowlers which is why India lost the next eight out
of nine matches to Pakistan.
2. India vs Australia: World Cup 1987
The first match of the 1987 World Cup was totally heartbreaking
for the followers of the Indian team. Riding on their '83 World
Cup win, India came across as a confident team. Australia posted
a score of 270 for India to chase. Following an aggressive 70
and 73 by Srikkanth and Sidhu, India looked set for a win at
207-3.
Suddenly India's batting order collapsed like a house of cards
and India was reduced to 256-8. The last over saw India needing
just 2 runs to win with 1 wicket in hand. Maninder was bowled
and India lost the match by 1 run.
3. India Vs Sri Lanka: World Cup Semi-final 1996
After putting up a score of 251, Sri Lanka sought to defend it
under the captaincy of Sanath Jayasuriya.
Sachin, like usual, led the Indian team's attack before he was
stumped at 65 from 88 balls. After his dismissal, India
dramatically slumped to 120-8 owing to the brilliance of
Jayasuriya. It was then that the match turned controversial
after the crowd vented their frustration by burning paper and
throwing bottles and stones at the fielders. The match was
called of by the match referee and was awarded to Sri Lanka by
default.
4. India vs England: 1987 World Cup
Kapil Dev won the toss and decided to let England bat. However,
he became clueless when Graham Gooch repeatedly smacked the
spinners towards the boundary. England posted a competitive
score of 254.
Sunil Gavaskar fell cheaply and a similar tale of collapse
followed. Kapil Dev got out to what people still remember as a
reckless shot after scoring a brisk 30 leaving India at 204-6.
The last 4 wickets were wrapped up for just 19 runs which left
the nation stunned. India's dream of lifting a consecutive World
Cup were crushed and so were a million hopes.
5. India vs Pakistan: Chennai Test 1999
This was one of the most heart-breaking moments for Sachin
Tendulkar fans i.e cricket fans in general. Sachin played
brilliantly on a pitch that was not meant to favour the
batsmen.Sachin was determined to steady the rocky Indian ship
and steer them to victory against the Pakistani team. He put up
a brave score of 136 before falling prey to Saqlain Mushtaq.
Moin Khan stated, in a press conference, that he had never seen
shots like that in his career before. India needed just 17 runs
to win in 95 overs with 3 wickets remaining. India, however,
lost 3 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs and India lost the match by
a 12 run victory. Sachin, who was adjudged the Man of the Match,
was so upset that he never turned up to collect the award.

The Umeda Sky Building is the seventh-tallest building in
Osaka City, Japan, and One of the city's most recognizable
landmarks. It consists of two 40-story towers That connect at
their two uppermost stories, with bridges and an escalator
crossing the wide atrium-like space in the center.
The escalator ride is an experience in wonder as it makes you
feel as if you are flying up into the sky. They lead to the
observation area of the twin towers. Located in the Umeda
district of Kita-ku, the building was originally conceived in
1988 as the "City of Air" project, which planned to create four
interconnected towers in northern Osaka. Eventually, practical
considerations brought the number of towers down to two.

The vase is an open container, often used to hold cut
flowers. It can be made from a number of materials including
ceramics and glass. The vase is often decorated and thus used to
extend the beauty of its contents. The vase has also developed
as an art medium unto itself. The ancient Greeks famously used
vases to depict scenes. It has since been developed and in 2003
the winner of the Turner Prize was Grayson Perry, for vase art.

1. Hotel offers free meal to guests who are willing to
generate electricity
The Crown Plaza Hotel in Copenhagen , Denmark , is offering a
free meal to any guest who is able to produce electricity for
the hotel on an exercise bike attached to a generator. Guests
will have to produce at least 10 watt hours of electricity -
roughly 15 minutes of cycling for someone of average fitness.
They will then be given meal vouchers worth $36 (26 euros).
2. Disco pub gets electricity produced by people dancing at
specially modified dance floor
All the flashing strobes and pounding speakers at the dance club
are massive consumers of electrical power. So Bar Surya, in
London, re-outfitted its floor with springs that, when
compressed by dancers, could produce electrical current that
would be stored in batteries and used to offset some of the
club's electrical burden. The club's owner, Andrew Charalambous,
said the dance floor can now power 60 percent of the club's
energy needs.
3. Brothel offers discount to eco-friendly customers who use
bikes
A Berlin brothel came up with an innovative way to attract
customers during the economic crisis, and do something to help
avoid climate change at the same time. They're offering a
discount to patrons who arrive on bicycles. According to Thomas
Goetz, owner of the 'Maison d'envie' brothel, the recession hit
their industry hard. Customers who arrive on bicycle or who can
prove they took public transport get a 5 (4.30)
discount from the usual 70 (60) fee for 45 minute
sessions. (Link)
4. Company creates a desktop printer that doesn't use ink nor
paper
Who says printers only use paper to print documents? It's time
for you to meet the PrePeat Printer then. Different from
conventional printers, PrePeat adopts a thermal head to print on
specially-made plastic sheets. These plastic sheets are not
merely water-proof, but could be easily erased, just feed the
sheets through the printer again, and a different temperature
will erase everything or just write over it. Also claimed by the
manufacturer, such one sheet could be used up to 1,000 times so
that you'll reduce your expenses on paper for sure.
5. University constructs a green roof as a gathering place
Green design is an enormously popular trend in modern
architecture, just take a look at this amazing green roof at the
School of Art , Design and Media at Nanyang Technological
University in Singapore . This 5-story facility sweeps a wooded
corner of the campus with an organic, vegetated form that blends
landscape and structure, nature and high-tech and symbolizes the
creativity it houses. The roofs serve as informal gathering
spaces challenging linear ideas and stirring perception. The
roofs create open space, insulate the building, cool the
surrounding air and harvest rainwater for landscaping
irrigation. Planted grasses mix with native greenery to colonize
the building and bond it to the setting.
6. Designer creates a sink that uses wasted water to grow a plant
Made of polished stained concrete, the Zen Garden Sink has a
channel that allows the water used while washing your hands to
water a plant. Created by young Montreal designer Jean-Michel
Gauvreau the sink comes in single or double basin model. The
sink is designed in a way you won't get your plants all soapy.
There is a main drain at the bottom of the basin for soapy
grime. Your little plant friend just gets whatever you choose to
dole out.
7. Designer creates a shower that forces you to leave when you've
wasted too much water
20% of our total domestic energy usage is from hot water for
showering and bathing. That's over 6 times the energy usage of
domestic lighting. So designer Tommaso Colia came up with his
eco-friendly shower design that will force you to get out when
you take too long and waste much water. The eco_drop shower
features beautiful concentric circles that will rise to force
you to stop showering when you take too long, and accordingly
save water.
8. Designer creates light-switch that changes colors to teach
children how to save energy
Teaching the importance of energy conservation is the goal of
this design from Tim Holley. He calls it Tio, and it's a
ghost-shaped light switch that gives kids a visual reminder of
how much energy they've used by leaving lights on. Tio starts
out green and smiling. If the light is left on for more than
four hours, he turns yellow and looks shocked. And if you dare
to leave that light on for more than eight hours, sweet little
Tio turns into a raging red hulk, complete with frowny mouth and
angry eyes. But he won't just visually remind your kids about
their energy habits; information from the light switch is sent
to Tio's computer program so the entire family can see how
they're doing. In a brilliant piece of visual positive
reinforcement, Holley's program lets kids grow a virtual tree
which gets bigger and healthier the more energy they
save.
9. Environmental company creates a staple-free stapler to avoid
staple pollution
Staples are supposed to be so bad to the environment that a
company decided to create a staple-free stapler. This product
promises to make collation eco-friendly. Instead of using those
thin metal planet-killers, the staple-free stapler "cuts out
tiny strips of paper and uses the strips to stitch up to five
pieces of paper together." You can even order them customized
with your corporate logo so you can, you know, brag about what
your company is doing to stop the staple epidemic.
10. Designer creates an iPhone charger powered by a hand grip
A green idea that gives you a great hand workout as well. Charge
your iPhone by a hand grip! This concept is called You can work
it out, designed by Mac Funamizu.
